WEEKEND ROUND UP: SEPT 24TH / 25TH
A round up of how the Wanderers teams got on over the weekend plus new updates...
First Team Stunned At Scunthrope...
After back-to-back wins away to Barnet and at home to Notts County, the Wanderers first team travelled to North Lincolnshire on Saturday afternoon to face another fallen Football League giant in this early part of the season in Scunthrope United. Ultimately a classic case of 'a game of two halves', Wanderers comfortably took a two goal lead into the interval after a clinical finish from Ryan Seager and Niall McManus finished a rapid counter attacking move. The home side, perhaps fired up by their shortcomings in the opening period and an increasingly restless crowd, came out the traps revitalised after the restart and went on to overturn Wanderers lead with goals from Caolan Lavery, Jacob Butterfield and George Taft through the course of the second half. Scunthorpe top scorer Joe Nutall could have added to the score line from the penalty spot after a handball was spotted inside the box, but clipped the outside of the post with his kick.
A bitterly disappointing afternoon for Marc White's side who now have consecutive home games coming up to get back into the winning habit, taking on Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday before facing Yeovil Town a week on Tuesday.

B Team Make It Three League Wins On The Bounce...
Rhys Barker's Wanderers B team carried on their recent good run of form at Meadowbank on Saturday afternoon, defeating Forest Row 3-0 in league action. On an afternoon where first team players Slav Huk and Jordan Cheadle featured in the starting line up, Eddy Angoua opened the scoring on the quarter-hour mark heading home a deflected cross at the back post, before Josh Bohui added another just two minutes later, nodding home from the debuting Trevor Caborn's delivery from the right. Substitute Sekou Toure added a third in stoppage time late on, doing well to fend off two defenders and sticking the ball away after his initial effort cannoned back off the keeper.
The B team are back on the road next Saturday as they travel to Billingshurst for a 3pm league fixture.

Ladies Lose First Game Of The Campaign...
The Wanderers Ladies were defeated for the first time this season in their first away fixture of the campaign as Sport London E Benfica ran out 3-2 winners at Rectory Park (Home of Middlesex FA). Charlotte Keenan got Wanderers off to a great start opening the scoring inside the first minute, but a converted penalty just past the half-hour and a quick goal after the restart saw the home side take the lead. Gemma Shepherd equalised on the hour but a goal inside the final five minutes of normal time sealed victory for the hosts, consigning the Ladies to a first loss having won their first four matches in all competitions so far this term.
Attention turns back to the FA Cup next Sunday as the Ladies travel to Eastbourne United in a 2pm kick off at The Oval, Princes Park, both sides will be aiming to make it to the 3rd Qualifying Round.
Academy Season Up And Running...
Last Wednesday our U19 Academy sides got their seasons started a week later than originally scheduled. The Academy 'A' side, competing in the National League Academy South Division, were defeated away at Bromley 4-2 in a 10am kick off played at Hayes Lane; Jordan Clark's team were trailing 3-0 at the hour point before a Nyack Thomas brace after coming off the bench got Wanderers right back in the game, the home side making sure of the points though in the latter stages with a fourth goal.
The Alliance 'B' side got off the mark in Division E later that day with a win against Dover Athletic B at Meadowbank, 3-1 the final score, Luke Bejashvili and Max Bohme netting for Wanderers either side of an own goal.
The Academy 'A' side return to action on Tuesday night as their FA Youth Cup journey begins, hosting Three Bridges in a 19:45 kick-off at Meadowbank. The Alliance 'B' travel to Welling United in league action on Wednesday, whilst our Tactics T1 U19 team begin their league campaign at home to Eastleigh Development in a midday kick-off at Meadowbank.
