WEEKEND ROUND UP: SEPT 17TH / 18TH

A round up of how the Wanderers teams got on over the weekend plus new updates...

Back-To-Back Wins For Wanderers First Team, Ending Magpies Unbeaten Start...

The Wanderers first team followed up last Tuesday's 0-1 win away at Barnet with another victory on Saturday, ending Notts County's unbeaten start to the season with a 3-1 win in front of a bumper crowd at Meadowbank. James McShane took his season tally to 8 goals by scoring a hat-trick, on an afternoon where Dan Lincoln and Dan Gallagher produced excellent individual displays within a resilient defensive effort throughout the team, the clean sheet on Tuesday and performance this past weekend a great response to the proceeding run of three straight defeats and number of goals conceded in those matches.

McShane's composed lob over Notts keeper Sam Slocombe opened the scoring approaching the midway point of the half, but the East Midlands side knocked on the door with a quality attacking display from there on in, and despite the best efforts of the Wanderers rear-guard, Cedwyn Scott levelled the scores shortly after the restart with a clinical finish inside the area. Marc White's side kept battling though and showed their trademark spirit to turn the game on it's head and take victory in stoppage time; McShane stabbing home from close range after his initial strike off the post bamboozled Slocombe as it bounced back out at an awkward angle, and two minutes later 'Macca' was first on the scene to poke the ball home again after Seager's initial strike could only be parried away by the keeper.

The win moves Wanderers just inside the top-half of the National League table in this still very early stage of the season, with 4 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats registered on the board so far. League action for September wraps up for the Wanderers first team next weekend as they make the visit to North Lincolnshire to face Scunthorpe United.

Ladies Through To The Next Round Of The FA Cup...

Originally scheduled for Sunday September 11th but postponed due to the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, the Wanderers Ladies FA Cup campaign began a week on with a 5-1 defeat over league rivals Richmond & Kew at Meadowbank. Cherelle Khassal scored a hat-trick and fellow striker Gemma Shepherd netted a brace as the Ladies secured their passage through to the 2nd Qualifying Round, where they will be away to Eastbourne United Woman on October 2nd, kick-off to be confirmed.

The BBC Three documentary series following Chairman Callum Best and the Ladies 2021/22 season was due to air last weekend but has been pushed back, keep an eye on the schedule and our social media channels for confirmation of when the much-anticipated series is due to air in the coming weeks.

Next up for the Ladies will be their first away fixture of the season next Sunday September 25th, a 2pm kick off against Sport London E Benfica at Rectory Park (Home of Middlesex FA).

Wanderers B Team Make It 6 Games Unbeaten...

Rhys Barker's Wanderers B team continued their recent good form by making it six games unbeaten and three away wins on the spin after defeating East Preston at The Lashmar on Saturday afternoon. Josh Bohui opened the scoring early on after good interplay between Ben Aubrey and Jack Saunders in the build up, the hosts then equalising on the quarter-hour with a well taken half-volley from the edge of the box. Bohui would grab his second of the game and seal the win for the Wanderers late on by converting from the penalty spot.

Like the Wanderers first team, this victory followed a win on the road in midweek as a Mark Soares goal was enough to secure all three points against Oakwood FC.

After 8 games played Wanderers B sit 5th in the table on 14 points, one behind current league leaders Epsom & Ewell but having played a couple of games more. Next up for the B team is a return to home soil as they host Forest Row next Saturday in a 3pm kick off at Meadowbank.

Reminder - season ticket holders go FREE for all B team games this campaign! Standard ticket pricing is Adults £6 / Concessions £4 / U18 £2.
