WEEKEND ROUND-UP: NOV 26th / NOV 27th

A round up of how the Wanderers teams got on over the weekend plus new updates...

First Team Back To Winning Ways...

After five matches without a win in the league, the Wanderers first team stopped the rot on Saturday afternoon, grinding out a 1-0 win against fellow promoted side York City at Meadowbank. James McShane's 13th goal of the campaign midway through the first half was enough for Marc White's side to take maximum points, keeping a clean sheet for the first time since mid-September after a resolute team display, led by strong performances at the back including the returning Ed Harris, who picked up the man of the match award. Moving up to 14th in the table, Wanderers will want to keep the momentum going this weekend as they travel to the side just one place above them in the standings, Maidenhead United, in a 12:30pm kick off at York Road on Saturday.

Title Race Is On For The Ladies..

The Wanderers Ladies continued their recent excellent form with a resounding 1-5 defeat of promotion rivals Brentford on Sunday afternoon at Bedfont Sports Club. Following the late September defeat to Sport London E Benfica, the Ladies made it a 7th straight win in all competitions with victory over the West London outfit. Gemma Shepherd's opener approaching the half-hour mark was quickly cancelled out by Chloe Logie for the home side, but the Ladies kicked on after the restart and wrapped up the win with four different players getting on the scoresheet through the course of the second half. Katie Butts and Amber Hendra established a 3-1 lead before the hour ahead of subs Cherelle Khassel and Charlotte Keenan adding a goal each after coming off the bench in the latter stages. The Ladies are now a point behind leaders Clapton Community and second place Brentford, but have two and three games in hand respectively on their promotion rivals as we approach the midway point of the campaign. Next up is another away trip in the league as the Ladies travel to AFC Whyteleafe in a 15:30 kick off next Sunday.

B Team Game Postponed...

Ruben Gaspar's B team were denied the opportunity to extend their recent winning run after Saturday's away league fixture to Forest Row was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. The return to league action will be extended to a further week as attention switches to the Challenge Cup 1st Round this coming weekend and the visit of league leaders Epsom & Ewell to Meadowbank in a 3pm kick off on Saturday afternoon.

Last week we caught up with newly appointed B team manager Ruben Gasper and also spoke to captain of the side Tommy Williams. Check out the interviews below:
