Press Release: National League resolution - Next Steps
Following the announcement from the National league that Step Two is to be null and void for the 2020-21 season, we want to advise all supporters that significant steps are being taken to ensure that this outcome is not ratified by the FA.
A legal team has been appointed and within the coming days will be setting out the clear and concise grounds in which we believe the National League have acted in contravention to the required legal and regulatory frameworks.
We will publish the findings of our legal team which will be countersigned by supporting National League clubs.
This will be provided directly to the FA who have welcomed the opportunity to fully establish and scrutinise evidence provided ahead of any ratification.
We will also be informing the FA Chief Executive, alongside Nigel Huddleston (Sports Minister) and Oliver Dowden (Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport) as to this matter, given the interest of the government specifically around the grants already provided by the National Lottery, which were designed to ensure that our community club is operational for this playing season.
The Club would once more like to place on record that we fully support those clubs that no longer thought that completing the 2021 season was sustainable and placed their club under threat. Our action is entirely to protect and support those clubs who in contrast are equally financially affected by the closing down of the season.
We trust that any true football supporter understands this simple factor.
We, alongside other fellow clubs entered the competition and we have been fully committed to completing the season at all times. Given the majority of National League member clubs wanted to continue to play football, and given the majority of National League South clubs wanted to continue to play football, we believe it is entirely unreasonable that in any event the National League are not seeking to protect their member clubs.
