MEADOWBANK STADIUM UPDATE

Following a Cabinet Meeting at Mole Valley District Council on Tuesday 21st March, Dorking Wanderers have confirmed that the sale of the freehold of Meadowbank Stadium to the club has been approved in principle.
This unanimous decision follows several months of discussions between council members, officers, site tenants and users, and due legal process can now be undertaken before the sale is finalised in the near future.
The freehold disposal means that Mole Valley District Council can finally yield a return from the site, which cost over £7 million to develop prior to it opening in the summer of 2018.
Chairman Marc White said: “We are delighted that MVDC have formally proposed the disposal of the Meadowbank site to Dorking Wanderers, and by doing so recognising that Dorking Wanderers are very much a trusted custodian of this iconic site that has been the home of football in Dorking since 1953. We remain excited about the role we can play to ensure that the site is both accessible and successful moving forward”.
White continued: “We take our role in the community very seriously and we are looking forward to working closely with all existing site tenants to ensure that Meadowbank remains a key asset at the heart of the community, through maximisation of local participation including local schools and youth clubs”.
Dorking Wanderers Executive Director, Kris Lea, added: “On behalf of the club we would like to say a big thank you to the respective members and officers of Mole Valley District Council who have worked in the background prior to this decision being reached. We would also like to thank our supporters, sponsors and local residents who have shown overwhelming support for our plans since they were made public last year”.
The club will release more news regarding this development in due course, whilst also supporting the council with legal formalities in the coming weeks.
