After defeating Sutton United at the semi-final stage last month, Dorking Wanderers U16s will face Esher in the Surrey County Youth Cup Final on Friday April 21st at Meadowbank Stadium.
Having formed back in the 2018/19 season as one of the original two teams that made up the club's new Elite Section, the Dorking Wanderers U16s are enjoying a fantastic final year together!
As well as reaching the Surrey County Cup Final, they have also made it through to the final of the Surrey Youth League Cup (final to be held on 14 May), and still have an outside chance of winning the SYL Premier Elite title.
Managed and Coached by Jack Clements – and supported by Assistant Manager John Richardson – the coaching team have said that the U16s side are 'an absolute pleasure to work with', playing attractive, possession-based football, in a positive, professional environment.
Head of Elite Youth Development Richard King adds:
"These boys love playing football, and they are supportive of each other, creative and brave on the ball, and determined to be successful. They are fantastic footballers, as well as polite, respectful young men: and they are an inspiration to the younger teams and players in the Wanderers Elite youth set-up".
Happily, despite this being their last season as a team, for most of these boys this is not the end of the journey at Dorking Wanderers, and a majority will continue along the club’s successful pathway in 23/24, whether as members of the club’s flourishing academy, or playing Step 6 semi-professional football in the B Team.
Dorking Wanderers Chairman Marc White adds the following:
"There's been a lot of hard work from Richard King and Jordan Clark (Director of Football) on the youth section of the football club in the last 4 to 5 years. We're starting to see the fruits of that and producing teams that are able to be amongst the best in the County. It's a real focus of ours as a club to produce home grown players - it's every club's dream - and this is us on the way to doing that. I wish the U16's all the very best for their upcoming finals."
