Dorking Wanderers Community Fund Quiz Nights
Throughout last season the club has held charity quiz nights in the Healthy Kitchen Lounge to support and raise funds for local charities and good causes. By donating the entry fees and organising raffles we have now raised in the region of £3000. The charities send a team or two to the quiz and give a short talk about their work within the community.
ORGANISATIONS TO BENEFIT SO FAR INCLUDE:
• Surrey Search and Rescue
• Dorking Scout Group
• Briggitte Trust
• Samaritans Male Suicide Appeal
• Dorking Community Fridge
• BeLong Community Youth Project
• Dorking Nursery and Family Centre
• The Poppy Appeal
Since the Lockdown brought an end to our evenings, we tried our hand at running a couple of Zoom online quizzes.
Theses proved to be very successful, The first one was to support our friends at St John's School (Community Appeal) . They have worked tirelessly to support people struggling throughout the Covid crisis.
The second one was for a Children's Charity in Serbia called 'Zajendo Za Zivot' which is supported by our football friends FK Vozdovac. This charity helps children who have been injured in such horrors as landmines, still a problem to this day.
We were even supported by Crystal Palace Captain Luka Milivojevic for this one!
Some of our players past and present helped asking questions for these Zoom quizzes, whom we would like to thank.
In addition to these events, we hosted a private quiz night for local company Sabre Insurance in support of their nominated charity 'The Labrune Syndrome Research'.
The Children's Trust Tadworth held a Fashion show which was also very successful.
We are delighted to support local good causes and have some fun along the way. Hopefully we can resume these nights again in the near future.
Our quizzes are researched and hosted by our Matchday announcer Les Freeland, and our Zoom quizzes were 'engineered' by our Head of Media Alfie Gates and assistant manager Adam Norton.
Dawn Hinton and Sam Agent help out running the Lounge, serving drinks and food throughout the evening and totting up the scores!
We would like to say a massive thankyou to all those who have attended these nights and for your support in these fund raising efforts.
The Lounge is available for private functions and Charity Events, so if you are interested in organising one please click here to Bar Manager Dawn Hinton
