CALUM BEST APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF DORKING WANDERERS LADIES
Dorking Wanderers have today announced that Calum Best has been appointed as Chairman of Dorking Wanderers Ladies, ahead of the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Established in 2020, Dorking Wanderers Ladies enjoyed a very successful maiden campaign by winning the South-East Counties Division One West. They now find themselves in the London & South-East Regional Women’s Division One North for season 2021-22, which is Tier 6 in the women’s football league pyramid. Home matches are played at Meadowbank Stadium in Dorking, which is also the home of the senior men’s team who themselves hold a British record with 11 promotions since forming in 1999.
Calum has been associated with the club for several years, supporting the team on the pitch whilst also supporting various initiatives of it, including the free school meals campaign in 2020. He and the club supported those in need who lived locally following the initiative devised by Manchester United player Marcus Rashford. He is an advocate for the ‘Her Game Too’ movement, and a regular participant in charity fundraising matches across the UK through the Sellebrity Soccer organisation.

Best can’t wait to get started and commented:
“After many years of thinking of a way to be more involved in an official capacity within football, I’ve decided the time is now right for me to take on this incredible role of Chairman of Dorking Wanderers Ladies.
I have long been a fan of women’s football and have supported Manchester United ladies for years and I’m excited to start at Dorking with a big vision and goal to get them to those levels. Now more than ever I feel is a great time to help raise awareness and support women who are fans of and love the game and I feel we can take this team from the lower levels to the top with the help of huge involvement from partnerships who have these same goals.
A big part of this decision was inspired by the ‘her game too’ movement and I hope to help create this same awareness here in Dorking where I already have a close friendship and affiliation with Marc White, the club and its supporters. Finally, I didn’t want to do the obvious, I wanted to start at grassroots level, from the beginning, growing together with a team of ladies and young girls who support football and who want to play it!
Exciting times ahead , we are aiming high..!
Dorking Wanderers owner and chairman Marc White added:
“Calum has been extremely supportive to both me personally & to Dorking Wanderers for several years. He is an extremely successful go-getter with several business interests but of course football is in his DNA.
I know first-hand how excited he is to work alongside our Ladies Section bringing with him a wealth of enthusiasm & connections that can enable this team to grow. As with everything he does he will be fully committed but of course will recognise this is just the start of a long journey.
I am personally delighted that Calum has taken on this role”
